We didn’t have a ton of goal. I wanted to get out before the snow set in, that was about all I knew. Last year, the same weekend, brought a few inches of snow & ice so we came prepared for inclement weather. Aside from some cold rain late Saturday night we really lucked out with some amazing temps and very little precipitation.
After setting up our first camp, we explored close by and reviewed some maps and decided that we should summit Slide Mountain, the Catskill’s highest peak.
Its really not the campiest thing ever BUT its not a trip to the Eastern Catskills unless you stop at the Phoenicia Diner. Solid food, Fast, and Bourbon Milkshakes. Need I say more?
I don’t know why, but when I saw around the fire the night before, all I wanted to was a mexican cola in a glass bottle. The cooler to the right of the counter screamed like a beacon filled with the heavenly fake caramel flavoring.
