RIVERSONG NETS

Winter 2014/2015 Lookbook

Story by Matthew Novak December 7th, 2014

I've known John parise for a little bit now...

When I first met John, I knew him as the guy to ask fly-fishing questions about. Now, I call him a friend, and he’s the guy I can ask fly-fishing question OR wood working questions. John’s line-up of nets are amazingly handcrafted, and meticulously made in his shop in Northern New Jersey. You can find more info out via his instagram (@riversongnets) or you can email him directly for custom made or pre-made nets at: jmichaelparise (at) gmail (dot) com. If you do, tell him Matt sent you!

Handmade nets for handmade people

I’ve loved watching the revival of handmade things in our current culture. The fact that owning something that someone made with their hands, with care, is a ‘trend’ is a little bizarre. But, I feel like it shows some maturation in where we are generationally and aesthetically. John makes his nets by hand, sometimes with tools he made, by hand.

Half function / half art

John makes his nets to be used. There’s no expectation that these should be hung on a wall. they should be fill with fish over the years. That doesn’t mean it’s not art though. So he signs them.
